Euroports’ 2023 Sustainability Report has been published today.

Aligned with the principles of the United Nations Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we remain dedicated to driving positive change and shaping a more sustainable future for generations to come. Our latest report highlights key achievements and progress in topics like Environment, Social responsibility and Governance. The report includes initiatives from both Euroports and its subsidiary Manuport Logistics.

ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES 

Climate Change and Energy Consumption:

  • We aim to increase energy consumption from renewable sources by 2030 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 40% compared to the 2020 baseline. In 2023, we achieved an 8% reduction in total GHG emissions and a 33% reduction per kiloton handled.

Circular Economy and Waste Management:

  • We prioritise recycling and reuse in waste management, with 84% of total waste directed towards recovery operations.

Water and Marine Resources:

  • We focus on reducing water consumption and protecting water quality, achieving a 10% reduction in water usage compared to 2022.

SOCIAL INITIATIVES

Health and Safety:

  • We prioritise the safety, health, and well-being of everyone involved in our operations, including employees, contractors, and visitors. Initiatives include Global Safety Day, the STOP procedure, and the Line of Fire programme, significantly reducing serious incidents.

Community Engagement:

  • We promote a decentralised approach to social responsibility, encouraging local entrepreneurship and community initiatives. We organise clean-up events and collaborate with environmental organisations for beach clean-up days.

Employee Well-being and Team Building:

  • Initiatives include well-being allowances, medical check-ups, and team-building activities to foster a positive workplace culture. Activities range from sports events to laughter therapy workshops, aimed at promoting emotional well-being and employee engagement.

Social Engagement and Inclusion:

  • We collaborate with food aid organisations to address food insecurity and provide training on sexual harassment prevention. Partnerships with foundations like Adecco promote diversity and inclusion.

Talent Development:

  • We invest in nurturing young talent through partnerships with universities and high schools, providing opportunities for young graduates to gain experience in the port industry. This initiative supports social equity and inclusion by ensuring equal access to education and employment.

GOVERNANCE INITIATIVES

Revised Code of Conduct:

  • Emphasis on ethical practices, transparency, and accountability.
  • Our enhanced Code of Conduct prohibits unethical practices such as bribery, corruption, and discrimination, and applies to all individuals representing Euroports and its subsidiaries. It is regularly updated to reflect changing standards and goals.

Whistleblowing, Anti-Bribery, and Corruption:

  • We have refined our Whistleblowing policy to ensure effectiveness and accessibility. Employees are encouraged to report instances of fraud and other unethical conduct.
  • The Anti-Bribery and Corruption Programme includes measures to prevent, detect, and address instances of bribery, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and promoting a culture of transparency and ethical behaviour.

IT Practices:

  • Focus on sustainability in IT operations by investing in energy-efficient hardware and adopting a SaaS-first and cloud strategy to minimise the environmental impact. We also emphasise cybersecurity through continuous awareness training and a quarterly Cyber Security Board.

Sustainability Awards:

  • Launched to recognise excellence in sustainability practices within the organisation. In 2023, Euroports Spain and Euroports Germany were awarded for their commitment to reducing environmental impact and promoting social responsibility.

These initiatives illustrate our comprehensive approach to integrating sustainability into our operations, ensuring long-term positive impacts on environmental, social, and governance aspects. Through these comprehensive efforts, we aim to drive positive change and shape a more sustainable future for the logistics and maritime industries.
