16 Dec Euroports chosen as maritime partner of choice by ArcelorMittal
For decades, Euroports has been ArcelorMittal’s maritime partner of choice for the maritime bulk and break bulk loading and unloading activities in Ghent. Euroports is proud to announce that our project team AWT Ghent-Euroports was elected to build and operate the new all-weather terminal. Euroports will secure the operational activities in the upcoming decades. We operate with 2 automated mobile cranes for loading and unloading the ships smoothly. The terminal has a warehouse that is 240 meters long and 60 meters wide with a storage capacity of 60,000 tons. Unique to this AWT is that the entire logistical process between unloading the wagon and loading on the ship is automated. There are 2 rail tracks connected with the warehouse, coils are unloaded out of the warehouse with 3 fully automated overhead cranes. After this the coils are pushed automatically to the covered waterside via automated overhead cranes just before loading the vessels.
With the AWT, we can load ships 24 hours a day, regardless of weather conditions, which enables us to secure more than 2 million tons a year. The higher loading capacity per ship saves up to 25.000 truck transports per year, making the AWT a significant investment in more sustainable logistics.
Euroports develops, operates and manages global maritime supply chain solutions. Through a network of 26 terminals and multiple dedicated customer sites in Europe and Asia, Euroports offers value added services, multi-modal transport and forwarding platforms across the globe. Annually, 60+ millions tons of bulk, breakbulk, liquid and containerized goods are handled.
